Upbringing.

Posted in Group:

My upbringing seemed to be pretty standard, as I was going through it, but now, as a troubled 18 year old male, I feel like there was something deep within my upbringing that disrupted how I turned out.
I've always been told that my education was #1 above anything else, which inherently isn't a bad thing, but I feel like my parents pushing my education on me is what caused me to become the social outcast that I am.
Another thing that was pushed on me very heavily was that family is the most important form of socialization. The only people I really could rely on, trust, or befriend was my family, because we were constantly moving, and I was never able to form a lasting friendship with anyone else. I feel that, as a young adult looking back, this was a horrible thing for my adjusting to society, because when I try to make friends or meet new people, I approach it as if through the eyes of an elementary school student, because that's truly all I know. Because of that, I tend to choose hanging out with my family over hanging out with my "friends" that I somehow managed to acquire, simply because it's easier.
I feel like my parents had unreasonably high expectations of me, and of what I could accomplish, and so now I have issues with my self-esteem and charisma.

Understandably so, sometimes parents live life through their children & press that upon them in a matter that can be counter productive later on. You sound very well rounded, what would be holding you back from developing your social skills now by taking yourself out of your comfort zone, a bit, meeting new people? Are you attending college in the near future? That may be whats necessary to start stepping in that social direction.

Do you work? Thats another good way of putting yourself out there in social settings.

Focus on you & all my strengths.

Choose wisely, treat kindly
